I live in New York’s beautiful Hudson Valley with my two teenagers and have been rehabbing birds for over twenty years. I’ve written a memoir about the slippery slope all rehabbers eventually slide down, called “Flyaway: How a Wild Bird Rehabber Sought Adventure and Found Her Wings,” published in 2009 by HarperCollins; as well as a children’s book, “Hawk Hill,” published by Chronicle Books.

What a great idea for a website,Suzie! I bought your book a couple of years ago and as a federally-licensed wild bird rehabilitator,I could totally understand everything the chaos these little darlings can cause in our lives.Thank you for allowing a window to the public on the lives we lead as rehabilitators.

This is a great idea! I am a novice wild bird rehabber and have questioned my own sanity on numerous occasions since taking on this new challenge. Then I read your book…now I am just comforted in knowing that there are other people who are just as nuts as I am…heehee.
Honestly though, I really enjoyed your book! I laughed my *** off when I read the woodchuck bit. How’s that for a teaser? Now you all have to go out and read the book so you can find out what I mean. Haha!

Its beed five years later and I’m seeing Hawks in my backyard. I was wondering if they could possibly be the Hawks she released
